Why is my cooling equipment (air conditioning unit) not coming on?

If the cooling equipment (air conditioning) is not coming on, first make sure your thermostat is in the right mode and calling for cool.

  1. Look at the thermostat home screen and make sure the mode is COOL or AUTO.
  2. If it is in AUTO mode, make sure the icon is a snowflake and not a flame.
  3. If the icon is a snowflake, follow these steps to adjust your cool temperature.
    • Press the ButtonSelect_sm button to wake up the thermostat.
    • Use the ButtonDown_sm button to set your cool temperature.
  4. If the icon is a flame, follow these steps to adjust your cool temperature.
    • Press the ButtonSelect_sm button to wake up the thermostat, and press it again to display the main menu.
    • Use the ButtonDown_sm button to highlight the SCHEDULE SETTINGS menu, and then press the ü
    • Press the ButtonSelect_sm button to select EDIT TEMPERATURES.
    • Use the ButtonUp_sm or ButtonDown_sm buttons to set your target heat temperature (must be lower than your cool target) and press the ButtonSelect_sm button.
    • Use the ButtonUp_sm or ButtonDown_sm buttons to set your target cool temperature (must be higher than your heat target and lower than your current temperature to turn on) press the ButtonSelect_sm button.
    • Press the ButtonSelect_sm button to save changes.

The snowflake icon should be animated now and you should feel cold air blowing through your vents in a few minutes.  If it does not work, follow these steps to check your wiring and equipment.

  1. Remove HōlHōm from the mounting bracket and make sure the “Y1” wire is securely connected (and “Y2” if you have two stages of cooling).
  2. Check the wiring at the HVAC equipment to make sure the “Y1” wire is securely connected (and “Y2” if you have two stages of cooling).
  3. Check to make sure your filter is not blocked, if it is replace it.
  4. Contact an HVAC technician to verify your cooling equipment is working correctly.

If this does not resolve the problem, report the problem to support.
