Why is my heating equipment not coming on?

If the heating equipment is not coming on, first make sure your thermostat is in the right mode and calling for heat.

  1. Look at the thermostat home screen and make sure the mode is HEAT or AUTO.
  2. If it is in AUTO mode, make sure the icon is a flame and not a snowflake.
  3. If the icon is a flame, follow these steps to adjust your heat temperature.
    • Press the ButtonSelect_sm button to wake up the thermostat.
    • Use the ButtonUp_sm button to set your heat temperature.
  4. If the icon is a snowflake, follow these steps to adjust your heat temperature.
    • Press the ButtonSelect_sm button to wake up the thermostat, and press it again to display the main menu.
    • Use the ButtonDown_sm button to highlight the SCHEDULE SETTINGS menu, and then press the ButtonSelect_sm button.
    • Press the ButtonSelect_sm button to select EDIT TEMPERATURES.
    • Use the ButtonUp_sm or ButtonDown_sm buttons to set your target heat temperature (must be lower than your cool target and higher than your current temperature to turn on) and press the ButtonSelect_sm button.
    • Use the ButtonUp_sm or ButtonDown_sm buttons to set your target cool temperature (must be higher than your heat target) press the ButtonSelect_sm button.
    • Press the ButtonSelect_sm button to save changes.

The flame icon should be animated now and you should feel hot air blowing through your vents in a few minutes.  If it does not work, follow these steps to check your wiring and equipment.

If you have a conventional system:

  1. Remove HōlHōm from the mounting bracket and make sure the “W1” wire is securely connected (and “W2” if you have two stages of heating).
  2. Check the wiring at the HVAC equipment to make sure the “W1” wire is securely connected (and “W2” if you have two stages of heating).
  3. Check to make sure your filter is not blocked, if it is replace it.
  4. Contact an HVAC technician to verify your heating equipment is working correctly.

If you have a heat pump:

  1. Remove HōlHōm from the mounting bracket and make sure the “Y1” wire is securely connected (and “Y2” if you have two stages of heating).
  2. Check the wiring at the HVAC equipment to make sure the “Y1” wire is securely connected (and “Y2” if you have two stages of heating).
  3. Check to make sure your filter is not blocked, if it is replace it.
  4. Contact an HVAC technician to verify your heat pump equipment is working correctly.

If this does not resolve the problem, report the problem to support.
