Make note of the given information and ensure the thermostat remains in Setup mode.
  1. Using a Wi-Fi-enabled device (for example a smartphone, laptop or PC), go to the list of reachable Wi-Fi networks and select the Energate Wireless SSID that was noted in the previous step. An example using a Windows 7 PC is shown below.

Wireless Network Connection

Note: Most wireless devices will show Energate’s wireless SSID but if you do not see the SSID in your list try another wireless device.

  1. Using your Wi-Fi enabled device open the web browser and enter the URL address: http://169.254.1.1. The following page should open.

    • It may take a minute for this page to appear, if it does not work the first time, wait 30 seconds and try again.
    • If the network setup web page still does not open when you enter the given URL address into the browser, check that your browser is set to allow cookies NOT block them.
  1. Enter the last 4 digits of your thermostat install code (as shown on the HōlHōm screen) in the provided field and click Next.
  2. Select your home wireless network from the list of reachable Wi-Fi networks.

WIFI-Network

    • If you get an page saying “There was an error configuring to join your network, please try again”:
  • Verify that your network’s SSID (Network Name) is not more than 31 characters. If it is, edit your SSID to be less than 31 characters.
  • If you would prefer not to edit your router SSID, you can set up a guest network with a shorter SSID for your thermostat to connect to.
  • Once you have changed your SSID, you will have to restart the configuration process.
  1. If prompted, enter your network password and click Next. Your thermostat will automatically leave Setup mode.
    • Your Wi-Fi enabled device may remain connected to the Energate Wireless SSID. Manually disconnect and reconnect to your network from the list of reachable Wi-Fi networks if this happens.
  2. After the Wi-Fi module is configured, the link status indicator at the top right of the Temperature or Energy home screen will display the status of the HōlHōm Wi-Fi connection with one of the following values:

Troubleshooting

Steps to troubleshoot

If one of the following occurs, your Wi-Fi connection is not working:

  • There is an “X” or a “Z” in the link status indicator in the top right corner of your HōlHōm screen
  • Your HōlHōm shows “Offline” in the Appliances tab of the MyEnergate web portal
  • The MyEnergate mobile application gives you an error “Request Timeout”

This can occur if you change your Wi-Fi router, SSID or password or if your internet connection is down. Follow these steps to fix your Wi-Fi connection:

  1. Verify you have internet connectivity through the Wi-Fi router you are using by using a PC or smartphone to connect to the internet. If you are not able to access the internet, contact your internet service provider to resolve the issue.
  2. Remove the power from your Wi-Fi router for 10 seconds and then plug it back in and see if this resolves the issue.
  3. Power cycle your HōlHōm by removing it from the mounting bracket for 10 seconds and then re-attaching it and see if this resolves the issue.
  4. Check the Wi-Fi link info menu in your HōlHōm by following these steps:
    • Press the ButtonSelect_sm button to wake up the thermostat, and press it again to display the main menu.
    • Use the ButtonDown_sm button to highlight the SETTINGS menu, and then press the ButtonSelect_sm
    • Use the ButtonDown_sm button to highlight the INSTALLER SETUP menu, and then press the ButtonSelect_sm
    • Use the ButtonDown_sm button to highlight the WIFI menu, and then press the ButtonSelect_sm
    • Press the ButtonSelect_sm button to select the LINK INFO menu.
  5. If the Wi-Fi connection is working, you should see CONNECTION ACTIVE on the Link Info menu.
  6. If you see ERROR on the link info menu:
    • You may have either selected the wrong wireless SSID or entered the wrong password. Repeat the steps to configure your Wi-Fi connection being sure to select the right SSID and enter the right password. If this does not resolve the problem, proceed to next step.
    • Login to your router settings and ensure that the Network mode is NOT set to “N only”. It should be set to “B, G, N mixed”. You may need to refer to your Wi-Fi router manual to change the settings.
  7. If you see SEARCHING FOR ESP or CONNECTING on the link info menu:
    • You may have MAC Address filtering enabled on your router. If so, you will need to add the Ethernet MAC address of your Foundation to your router as a permitted device. Consult your Wi-Fi router manual to change the settings.
    • You may have a firewall blocking ports 8580, 18580, 28580, 38580 or 48580. If so, you will need to open these ports on your firewall. Consult your Wi-Fi router manual to change the settings.

If these steps don’t solve the problem, please report it to support.
